Facial Xpressions by KenDreeka Carrington is partnering with Redress for the upcoming Fall Fashion Expo. Leading up to this fall fashion event, we are doing a little behind the scenes tour for a look at all the talent that goes into producing a fashion show. KenDreeka spent some time to tell us about herself as a make up artist and to share some tips and professional advice.
Redress: What inspired you to become a makeup artist?
Facial Xpressions: I have always had a passion for makeup and making others feel beautiful. I once struggled with severe acne and in return, I turned to makeup to help cover my insecurities. As time went by, I learned how to take care of my skin as well as properly applying makeup. Now, I feel that I can help others who may be dealing with flaws in regard to their skin while also helping them feel beautiful in the process.
Redress: What are some of your favorite products to use and why?
Facial Xpressions: I don't feel that I have a favorite particular line of makeup or cosmetic product - if I had a favorite product that I loved, I may try to incorporate it with every client. Therefore, I keep an open mind, analyze my client's skin, and then choose products that I feel will work best for them. It does not depend on the cosmetic line. I do feel it is a must to clean up client's eyebrows with a matte-like concealer to give the eyebrows a polished and flawless look.
Redress: What makeup trends are you looking forward to the most this season?
Facial Xpressions: For this season, I am looking forward to seeing more "out of the box" styles of makeup artistry. I am very intrigued by runway/fashion show makeup because the makeup artist is able to express him/herself in their craft.
Redress: If a woman is trying to have a low maintenance day, what are the essential things you recommend she does with her makeup before she leaves the house?
Facial Xpressions: If you are going for a low maintenance look, I absolutely suggest grabbing a eyebrow/ eyeliner pencil, mascara, powder foundation and a nude lip color. With these 4 items you can not seem to go wrong. This will give you the subtle look that you desire for an average day without appearing to have applied or taken a lot of time to do your makeup.
Redress: Which makeup remover do you recommend and why?
Facial Xpressions: I always recommend Mary Kay's oil free eye makeup remover. It does not leave behind a greasy residue and it will remove eye makeup easily, including stubborn mascara. As far as makeup removers for the face, I personally use LUSH's ultrabland cleanser. It serves as an excellent makeup remover as well as a daily cleanser. Unlike most make up removers, Ultrabland leaves your skin feeling soft and nourished due to the soothing rosewater and iris flower extract. It is also suitable for all skin types.
